The Modern Spark Trio met through performing in different groups in the Twin Cites. Their experience includes classical repertoire, jazz standards, gypsy folk music, Brazilian percussion, and modern composition. They enjoy playing all types of music at any kind of event.
Violinist Laura Harada studied at Oberlin Conservatory before moving to Minneapolis and discovering a whole other world of music. Her musical explorations since then include chamber rock, gamelan, Brazilian drumming, jazz, contemporary composition, folk music from all over the world, tango, and classical Arabic music. She has specialized in Arabic music for 15 years and toured nationally with Senegalese singer Youssou N'dour for his Grammy Award winning project Egypt.
Laura appears locally with classical Arabic ensemble Amwaaj, Music Mundial, Rogue Tango, Georges Lammam Ensemble, and Brazilian drumming group Batucada do Norte.
Cellist Aaron Kerr studied music at Loyola University, New Orleans before calling St. Paul, Minnesota his home. Aaron is trained in classical music, but has specialized in modern composition and jazz performance for many years. He currently plays with The Americana rock band Swallows, The JazZen jazz trio, and his own group, Aaron Kerr's Dissonant Creatures.
Rebecca Hass, piano, has been an accompanist and performer in the Twin Cities area for several years in a variety of capacities, including accompanying at MacPhail Center for Music, Northeast United Methodist Church, and playing for numerous weddings. She also runs her own piano studio in the area.
Rebecca's interests extend to many types of music, including classical, jazz, musical theater, and especially Brazilian - playing in the local samba percussion group Batucada do Norte. She holds a Bachelor of Music degree with a concentration in art history and anthropology from Ithaca College.
